Underground Coal Gasification Project revived

Mr. Elmar Roberg (Programme Manager), Mayor Stephen Koalane and Mr. Pule Tsekedi at re-initiative meeting.

On the 09th of June the Mayor; KS Koalane, Municipal Manager; Mr. P Tsekedi, Programme Manager; Mr. E Roberg including office staff members held a re-initiative meeting at Mayor’s Chamber in Theunissen.

The main purpose of the meeting to revive the talks and re-initiate this project that was presented some years ago. Mr. Roberg stated that this project earmarked to start in Matjhabeng and overlaps to Masilonyana will be a great opportunity for other businesses and industries, with Eskom to mention.

“The construction phase of the project will benefit about 170 people on its breakdown later this month of July 2020” so said Mr. Roberg.  And further stated that with its lifespan it will benefit and attract more local businesses and investors.

Roberg also mentioned that the project with its new technology will costs about more than R20 million for a period of 10 years.
